Something Lacey and Looney in a Holiday Meme

Spread the love

Woo-hoo! I swapped with Zabrina from “Knitasaurus Rex” for a book which arrived in the mail today. Previously Mary, the owner of Yarns at Lacewings, let me borrow her copy. Now I have my own, and I know which pattern I will be making for a Christmas gift. I had knitted a 2-swan version of “The Children of the Lir Stole” for Lisa’s wedding as her birthday present using Berroco’s Quest in a diamond white colorway. This one will use Aristocrat’s Heirloom in a heathery green mohair blend. I hope the recipient loves it!

While I am photographing items this evening, I figured I better photograph what is on the cork of the Smoking Loon wine bottle. Rich had tossed out the red bottle before I had a chance to read the cork, but I was able to snap a shot of the white bottle. After reading the cork, I had a great chuckle. Bet you will too when you click on the bottle’s label below.

Here is a Holiday Meme that I “borrowed” from Knit Nana. As she does, I celebrate Christmas and other holidays. And as she said in her meme, feel free to copy if you’d like.

      1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Both, especially when laden with bourbon in the nog and vanilla vodka in the chocolate. You cannot ignore apple schnapps in the cider, either!
      2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
Presents wrapped in assorted papers with lots of ribbon is his preference.
      3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White lights are all that we have for now.
      4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope. We also are not sure if the bunnies would get to it, so not for now.
      5. When do you put up your decorations?
Depends where we are spending the holidays. This year, we just might. 🙂
      6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
When Rich and I host the holiday dinner, we always try to make one of the “L” dishes — lasagna, lamb, lobster, and London broil have been done in the past.
      7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
When my sister (2) and I (4) went to visit Santa and she hid behind my Daddy’s legs because she was so scared. I ended up with both Raggedy Ann dolls!
      8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Www-what? You can’t hear the bells??
      9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
As a kid we always ended up opening all of the gifts after Midnight Mass. Now, my husband and I open one gift before we go celebrate the Eve dinner with the family, then open their gifts after dessert. We still wait until Christmas morning to open our personal gifts to each other.
      10. What kind of decorations are on your Christmas Tree?
Lots of color thanks to the Paddington and Coca-cola Bear ornaments with white lights.
      11. Snow! Love it or Dread?
Depends if I am inside or outside and what am I doing. 😉
      12. Can you ice skate?
Barely, but I despise any sport that requires me to concentrate on not getting hurt. Yes, I get scared of falling on my butt!
      13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Well the one I am most thankful for is my radar detector (GRIN) from Richie in 2003, but my all-time favorite is my giant Paddington Bear (named “Skipper” as in Gilligan) from my sister in 1995 (or was it 1994?). I still sleep with him in my arms every night. And see Skipper below with my latest FO.
      14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Spending time with my family and friends.
      15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Hmmm… Not sure about that one since it seems that I love all desserts, but I miss eating my parents’ leche flan (caramel custard) and banana eggrolls (sweet bananas used as the filling in springrolls).
16 What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Watching the movie “White Christmas” and all of the college bowl games with Richie.
      17. What tops your tree?
A Paddington or bunny, depending on my mood. 😉
      18. What is your favourite holiday book?
(blushing) The Great Christmas Kidnapping Caper which is a kid’s book I fell in love with a looooooong time ago when I was umm, 8 years-old.
      19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Don Henley’s “Please Come Home for Christmas” makes me wish I was back home in Virginia every time I hear it.
      20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yummy?
They are okay. I would rather have chocolate though, so if they were covered in chocolate, YUM!

One final note. I am completely vexed because I misplaced my Giant Clapotis. 🙁 I have no idea where I put it, and I do not want to say it is officially “lost” yet. Of course, what do I plan to do? Why knit another shawl in CTH! This time it will be in Twister’s merino. =:8

  1. Awww, this book must be divine – I can well imagine what kind of goodie patterns there are in it, and I certainly can’t wait to see which project you decided for with this yummy yarn!
Thanks for sharing your answers to the meme – it’s always so interesting reading through these. We do share one fave tradition – the watching “White Christmas” thing – the holidays aren’t complete without it, are they?
I had a good laugh with that cork – and gosh, the wine must have been yummy, wasn’t it?
Good luck in finding your Clapotis – I’m sure it’s turned up again by now! 😉

  2. (((hugs)))
I love your answers to the meme! And the bear is adorable, no wonder you still sleep with him….
That book is great! I have to decide on one to knit, too, but I’m not quite there yet…too many others already on the list.
