Crochet: Evening Triangle Shawl, Two Ways

Spread the love

Over the years I have designed patterns around particular yarns due to their drape, color, and texture. The yarns listed in the patterns below are recommended, but can be substituted with anything comparable in weight and length. Gauge is not a factor here since the shawl is created from the point of the triangle to the desired size.

Crochet

Catherine: Evening Triangle Shawl in Cotton
  • 5 hanks Takhi Charles Cotton Classic 100% Mercerized Cotton (108 yds /50g)
  • 3 skeins Feza Dominica OR Feza Diamond (ideally in the same color) ladder yarn (165 yds / 50g)
  • Size P (US-12, 15mm) crochet hook
  • Stitches used – ch, dc, V-stitch (dc-ch-dc), double puff stitch (yo, insert hook into stated stitch, yo and pull up loop, yo, insert hook into same stitch, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull yarn through all 5 loops on hook, ch1 to lock all loops together)
Note – this pattern requires one strand of each yarn type to be held together throughout

Row 01: Chain 4, dc in last chain from hook, chain 4 and turn
Row 02: DC in base of chains just made, chain 1, V-stitch into last stitch by dc-ch-dc, chain 4 and turn
Row 03: DC in base of chains just made, chain 1, double puff stitch in ch1 space made from previous row, chain 1, V-stitch into last stitch, chain 4 and turn
Row 04: DC in base of chains just made, chain 1, *double puff stitch in ch1 space made from previous row, chain 1,* V-stitch into last stitch chain 4 and turn
Repeat Row 04 until the ladder yarn is gone on an entire row.
Finish off and use leftover cotton yarn for fringing along sides on each V-stitch bottom point. (I use a DVD case width for size, that is about 5 3/8 inches)

Abigail: Evening Triangle Shawl in Wool
  • 3 hanks Berroco Softwist Bulky (136 yds /100g) OR
  • 6 hanks Berroco Softwist (100 yds /50g)
  • 3 skeins Feza Dominica OR Feza Diamond (ideally in the same color) ladder yarn (165 yds / 50g)
  • Size Q (US-15, 17mm) crochet hook
  • Stitches used – ch, dc, V-stitch (dc-ch-dc), double puff stitch (yo, insert hook into stated stitch, yo and pull up loop, yo, insert hook into same stitch, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull yarn through all 5 loops on hook, ch1 to lock all loops together)
Note – this pattern requires one strand of each yarn type to be held together throughout, however if Softwist is used, then it must be doubled to duplicate the Bulky
